Prime Minister Stephen Harper has made clear his intentions to re-engage the Americas by expanding Canada’s political and economic commitments to the region. The Canadian government’s objectives in South America are to strengthen freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law; build strong, sustainable economies through increased trade; and to address security problems in the region.
